Our partnership with L’Ecole Primaire de Point E is sustained mainly by the hardworking and dedicated M. Sane, who has given countless time and energy to this project and never asked for anything in return. He is one of those unsung heroes who quietly goes about serving others, simply because helping is its own reward.
In order to make his life a lot easier, and to make our partnership stronger, we would like to be able to outfit him with a laptop. Currently, each time he needs to create a montly report, budget statement, or send us an email (sometimes daily) he walks to the closest cyber cafe. There he deals with unreliable internet connections, viruses galore, and the regular electricity cuts that plague Dakar.
Do any of your PJG supporters out there have an old laptop that you could donate to Project Japale Goune? We only ask that it has enough speed and memory to run MS Office and has a battery that can outlast Dakar power outages (at least an hour). Of course, the value of the laptop can be taken as a tax deduction.
If you have a laptop that you are interested in donating, please contact us!

Thanks to the Millard Rotary Club in Nebraska who have contributed half of all of their club fines to Project Japale Goune.
We are thrilled to have you on board!

*Well, at least an honorary one.
Mayfair Rotary, the club that sponsored my Ambassadorial Scholarship, graciously invited me to become an honorary member earlier this year. They meet weekly in Wauwatosa, the city where I grew up and where my parents still live. Even though I live an hour away in Madison, I feel very connected to the Tosa community. How could I turn down an offer like this?
Mayfair Rotary has been a strong supporter of Project Japale Goune since its inception and were the first club to contribute regularly through club fines. Their early and strong support really helped give me the motivation to continue to see this dream through.
Tonight, it was made official at the annual changing of the guard ceremony. I even got an official nametag! I am honored to be welcomed by a Rotary Club that is making such positive change in the community.
Thanks Mayfair! I promise to eventually submit the nametag to the club’s official supply: as soon as I am done showing it off!

A writer for Rotary’s ReConnections Magazine contacted us recently and wants to publish an article about Project Japale Goune in the next issue. Of course, we are thrilled to do it!
Its always easy and fun to talk about a passion, so I enjoyed getting interviewed. Talking about the past 2 1/2 years of our work made me realize how we have grown. Our original goal was to raise a few hundred dollars for the school, and to date we have raised over $25,000! Sometimes, it’s worth a pause to look back and see just how far you’ve come.
Be sure to check out the November issue of Reconnections!
